The Town and County of Culpeper enjoy a unique relationship promoting Economic Development and Tourism activities.
On Aug. 8, 1996, the Town of Culpeper and Culpeper County signed a Memorandum of Agreement, which created an Economic Development Advisory Commission, a Tourism Advisory Committee and an Agricultural Advisory Committee. The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) also divided the official responsibility of Tourism activities and Economic Development activities between the two governmental units. Under the MOA, the Town of Culpeper would be responsible for administration and funding of planning and implementing activities that promote and market Tourism. Culpeper County would be responsible for all other Economic Development activities including the protection and promotion of Agriculture.
Today, the Department of Tourism of the Town of Culpeper promotes tourism activities throughout the Town and Culpeper County. The Culpeper County Department of Economic Development encourages economic development throughout the county, including the Town of Culpeper. Both departments interact on a routine basis and support each other activities. The relationship of these two agencies is inclusive, and they both support and assist other economic development engines that include both government and private sponsored organizations and events. These economic components include Culpeper Renaissance, Inc. – the volunteer-based Main Street organization charged with the responsibility of persevering, maintaining and promoting the downtown area of Culpeper; the State Theatre Foundation – the founder of the re-born 1930’s art deco theatre in downtown Culpeper and the Culpeper Harvest Days Farm Tour – demonstrating life on the farm in the 21st Century.
